This week, I am delighted to share another student’s work published in the Star of Bethlehem. Katherine McMenaman is a very talented painter and recently contributed this piece titled “Sign of Contradiction.” You can take a look at her work and read the accompanying reflection that she wrote below.

The artist's meditation:
“This is the Sign of Contradiction. It contradicts the things you have been told: that life is confirmed by the things of the world; that life is everything we have here and now; that someday, in the end, you will be plucked out of the ineffable graph of time, and forever dwell in nothingness. However, my friends, I will tell you about a greater joy. There is so much more to life than what you have been told. In this contradiction, you have been offered another world with life in abundance.
Although you see He is very ugly, you will never find something more beautiful. He has given more than the human heart can understand, for “He has planted eternity within the human heart” (Ecc 3:11).
I encourage you to look closely at Him. Look, and just think. Think about what eternity means. If you look closely, you can see that His love has no limits. This love has given you a freedom that is found nowhere else in the world. It engulfs you in peace—a peace which the world can never take away. Look at Him and think. In His death you will find what it means to be fully alive.”
