Six Students Inducted Into National Honor Society

Mar 13, 2018

Six Mount Royal high school students were recently inducted into Mount Royal Academy’s St. Thomas Aquinas chapter of the National Honor Society. The inductees were Hannah Fraioli (’19), Kateri Kalpakgian (’20), Mary Grace Klucinec (’20), Aidan Moorehouse (’20), Tristan Ouellette (’20), and Antigoni Souliotis (’20).

Dr. Mary Mumbach, a professor of literature from Northeast Catholic College, gave the keynote address. She praised Mount Royal for it’s commitment to classical education and noted the synergy of missions between the two schools. She further explained the importance of a classical education. “Education is, in many ways, about the search for freedom and the preservation of justice.” said Dr. Mumbach. While many criticize and question its relevance, a classical education rightly focuses on recognizing excellence. There may be a perceived contradiction between humility and honor, but in reality, both are vital to a life rooted in truth.

Following Dr. Mumbach were the four existing members of the school’s chapter, each expounding on the four pillars of the National Honors Society: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. National Honor Society members will now shift focus to a spring service project in the local community. Please reach out to Mr. Andrew Mihaly with engaging community service opportunities for students.
